🦖 The Hilarious Day Doug's Parents First Saw Rex

Doug will never forget the day his parents first laid eyes on Rex.

His dad's name is Russell, but everyone calls him Russ.

His mom's name is Carol.

The very first day Rex wandered into the backyard, Carol was inside talking on the phone.

Doug burst through the back door.

"Mom! You have to come outside! You won't believe what I'm seeing!"

Carol smiled. She figured Doug had spotted a deer, a rabbit, or maybe a squirrel.

Instead...

There was a dinosaur standing by the grill!

She let out one great big...

"AAAHHHH!!"

Doug laughed.

"Don't worry, Mom! Rex is really nice!"

Just then, Rex smiled, carefully placed a cheeseburger, chips, and a little ketchup on a plate, and handed it to Carol with a polite bow.

Then he did something no one expected.

He put on a giant chef's hat...

Started tap dancing...

And even spun around like they did in the old black-and-white movies!

Carol couldn't stop laughing.

Just then, Russ walked outside.

"What in the world was all that noise?" he asked.

He stopped in his tracks.

He had never seen a real dinosaur before.

Doug smiled.

"It's okay, Dad. Rex is friendly... and he's cooking dinner tonight!"

Rex fired up the grill.

Before long, hamburgers and hot dogs were sizzling away.

Russ liked his burgers cooked well done.

Carol liked hers medium.

Rex cooked every single one perfectly.

By the end of dinner, everyone agreed...

Rex was the best grill master they had ever met!

The next weekend, when Rex stopped by again, nobody was surprised.

In fact...

They were excited to see him!

A few visits later, Russ disappeared into the basement and came back carrying an old toy crown.

He carefully placed it on Rex's head and proudly announced,

"From this day forward, you are officially the King of the Grill!"

Rex smiled so big that everyone burst into laughter.

🐶 But Not Everyone Was Brave...

Doug's dog, Buster, wasn't quite sure about Rex. That's him below.

The very first time he saw a dinosaur outside the window, he ran straight upstairs and hid under Russ and Carol's bed!

These days, Buster simply watches Rex through the window.

He especially likes barbecue days because Leila always saves a few little pieces of barbecue beef just for him.

🐱 Then There Were the Cats...

Doug's two cats, Doodles and Munchkin, had a completely different reaction. That's them below on the right.

When Doodles first spotted Rex, he puffed up his fur, raised one paw, and looked ready to challenge the giant dinosaur to a fight!

Munchkin always copies whatever Doodles does...

So he puffed up too!

Of course, Rex simply smiled and waved.

Now the two cats jump onto the dresser whenever Rex visits so they can watch all the backyard fun from the window.

And if a little barbecue happens to fall on the ground...

Well...

They don't seem to mind that one bit!
