How Doug and Rex First Met

Doug can't believe it's been almost a year since the day he first met Rex.

It all started one warm Saturday in June.

Doug's Mom and Dad asked him to get the backyard grill ready for a family barbecue. As he was cleaning the grill, the ground suddenly began to shake.

"Uh-oh... is that an earthquake?" Doug wondered.

But it wasn't an earthquake at all.

Out of the nearby forest came a friendly green dinosaur named Rex! His amazing nose had smelled the delicious burgers and hot dogs cooking on the grill, and he couldn't resist coming over to see where the wonderful smell was coming from.

At first, Doug was a little nervous. After all, he'd never met a dinosaur before!

But Rex smiled and said, "Need a hand with the grill?"

Doug couldn't help but laugh.

It turned out Rex was an incredible grill master. He cooked the burgers until they were perfectly juicy, turned the hot dogs at just the right time, and made sure nothing got burned.

As a thank-you, Doug gave Rex two big cheeseburgers before he headed back into the forest.

The very next weekend, Rex came back to say hello.

Then he came back the weekend after that.

Before long, Rex became the official weekend grill master for every family barbecue. He was so good at it that Doug's Mom and Dad proudly gave him the title:

While Rex cooked, Doug loved sitting nearby telling him jokes and riddles.

A thesaurus!

Every single time, Rex laughed so hard he almost dropped the spatula!

Doug has two best friends, Ben and Trevor, who love riding bikes around the neighborhood with him. That's them on their bikes below.

Doug has told them all about Rex...

...but they don't believe a single word.

They just smile and say,

"Nice story, Doug!"

Doug can't wait for the day Ben and Trevor finally meet Rex for themselves.
